PHEV Technology Alleviates Range Anxiety And Drives New Energy Mobility Adoption
Kuala Lumpur, 20 June 2025 – OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has witnessed a growing confidence around the energy-mobility transition among Malaysian consumers in recent months. The premium off-road SUV brand believes plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology alleviates range and reliability concerns, thus driving adoption among consumers.
OMODA I JAECOO Malaysia extended its offerings in the country’s new energy mobility space in February this year with the launch of the JAECOO J7 PHEV. Its cutting-edge best-in-class technology and performance, paired with a competitive warranty and pricing strategy quickly captured the market’s attention. In just four months, it has garnered over 800 registered JAECOO J7 PHEVs.

"The JAECOO J7 PHEV with our proprietary Super Hybrid System (SHS) is a technology leader in its segment. With a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, owners can easily travel over 1,300km (NEDC range) without having to stop to refuel or recharge. The J7 PHEV represents the best of both worlds – allowing fully electric driving in the city with an exceptional all-electric range of 106km (NEDC range) and a highly efficient journey on long-distance drives," said OMODA I JAECOO Malaysia Vice President, Emily Lek.
With hybrid mobility awareness still in its infancy, OMODA I JAECOO believes continuous education for its super hybrid system technology is crucial. The brand is conscientious in its on-going PHEV familiarisation sessions for adopters in line with its commitment to journey with customers throughout the ownership experience.
"We honour our early adopters and look forward to delivering many more units of the JAECOO J7 PHEV to discerning households looking for a premium SUV that can go the distance," Lek said at a recent event to celebrate the handover of JAECOO J7 PHEVs to 100 enthusiastic early adopters.
Sharing his personal experience as an early adopter making the switch from an internal combustion engine (ICE) to a PHEV, Manivannan Manickam said, "Our J7 PHEV has been great so far. It’s comfortable for the whole family, and we can go long distances without refuelling. I am glad I chose this car, it fits my needs perfectly and I foresee that I will be driving it for many years to come."

Singaporean-native, Ian Chan, was thrilled to put the PHEV to the test, travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur to meet like-minded PHEV mobility owners. “I’ve had my J7 PHEV for a few months now, and I’m enjoying the experience so far. I drove it up to Malaysia just to attend this gathering and meet other J7 PHEV owners, as we don’t yet have such community events in Singapore yet. Looking forward to the next one!” he said.
"I specifically wanted to get the hybrid version of the J7, and waited for it to launch in Malaysia. The features are great, the car looks good, and it drives very well too. I was able to learn more about my car at this event, especially about the hybrid technology and how to maximise range," said fellow JAECOO J7 PHEV owner, Andy Wong.
The JAECOO J7 PHEV is powered by a Super Hybrid System with the ability to travel up to 1,300km (NEDC range) on a single tank and a single charge. The JAECOO J7 PHEV has a class-leading pure electric range of 106km (NEDC range) and the lowest fuel consumption in its class, at 4.77 (NEDC range) litres per 100km, in a power-depleted state. Its Intelligent Drive Modes system gives drivers the freedom to either maximise petrol savings and extend range or enjoy maximum power with a full 255 kW and 525Nm at their command.
Priced competitively at RM158,800, the JAECOO J7 PHEV Super Hybrid System also delivers the best in safety and advanced safety systems in its segment. Setting a new benchmark for safety with a comprehensive Level 2.5 ADAS, the JAECOO J7 PHEV is equipped with eight airbags as a standard and supported by enhanced features like a Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Prevention, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Engineered to perform under extreme temperatures, especially for Malaysia, the JAECOO J7 PHEV’s 18.3 kWh LFP battery remains weather resistant, impervious to hot weather and flooding.
